Assessment Preparation

What to Bring on Assessment Day

Required Items:

  • Your dog on a comfortable leash and harness/collar
  • Current vaccination certificates (physical copies or digital)
  • Emergency contact information for someone local
  • Any current medications your dog is taking

Recommended Items:

  • Your dog’s favorite high-value treats
  • A comfort toy or blanket if your dog is nervous
  • Water bottle for your dog (we also provide fresh water)
  • Positive attitude and patience!

Pre-Assessment Tips

The Day Before:

  • Ensure your dog is well-rested
  • Normal feeding schedule (don’t skip meals)
  • Light exercise to reduce excess energy

Assessment Day Morning:

  • Normal breakfast (don’t feed extra)

Important Policies

Cancellation & Rescheduling

  • 24-hour notice required for cancellations or rescheduling
  • Same-day cancellations will forfeit 50% of assessment fee
  • Emergency situations will be considered on a case-by-case basis
  • Rescheduling is free with proper notice

“My dog is nervous around new people/dogs” Our team specializes in anxious dogs. We’ll take extra time and use calming techniques to ensure a positive experience.

“What if I need to reschedule?” No problem! Just give us 24 hours’ notice and we’ll find a new time that works for you.

“Can I stay during the assessment?” We find most dogs perform better without their owners present, but we can accommodate special circumstances.

“Do you assess all dog breeds?” We’re excited to welcome strong breeds to our pack! To ensure every dog has the most pawsome experience, we assess power breeds (like Pitbulls, Rottweilers, Dobermans, and Mastiffs) only when they’re young pups under 8 months old. Before Your Assessment

Please ensure your dog meets these essential requirements:

Health & Safety:

  1. Current Vaccinations: All vaccinations must be up-to-date (bring certificate)
  2. Spayed/Neutered: All dogs must be spayed or neutered
  3. Age Requirement: Dogs must be at least 6 months old
  4. Flea & Tick Prevention: Must be on current flea and tick prevention

Behavioral Requirements: 5. Basic Socialization: Dogs should be comfortable around people and other dogs 6. Leash Training: Must be able to walk on a leash 7. Equipment: Please bring a well-fitting collar/harness and sturdy leash

Administrative: 8. Health Check: Recent vet visit within the last 12 months recommended

Total Duration:  Full Day 

Arrive at our daycare with your dog on leash and harness. Here’s your assessment journey:

Phase 1: Welcome & Introduction (5-10 minutes)

  • Meet with our managerial staff in our dog-free consultation area
  • Review your dog’s history, needs, and any concerns
  • Complete final paperwork and emergency contacts

Phase 2: Staff Introduction (10 minutes)

  • Your dog meets our experienced daycare team
  • Initial temperament and comfort level assessment
  • Basic command and handling evaluation

Phase 3: Canine Social Introduction (10-15 minutes)

  • Carefully supervised introduction to our calm, well-socialized resident dogs
  • Assessment of play style and social cues
  • Monitoring stress levels and comfort

Phase 4: Daycare Environment Assessment (10-15 minutes)

  • Behavior evaluation within our daycare facility
  • Response to daycare sounds, activities, and environment
  • Leash walking assessment through facility

Phase 5: Park Adventure (10-15 minutes)

  • Group walk to Green Point Park with 3 other dogs and staff
